When Nick Dovolis passed away in the summer of 2008, friends and family members were eager to remember him. A charitable golf event was a fitting way to bring family and friends together to reflect on the joyful life that he led. He lived every one of his days to the fullest. Nick was loving, caring, and charismatic, giving his very best to others.
In June of 2017, Nick’s brother, Jimmy, passed away. We believe the two brothers, our sons, and best friends, are resting together in God’s Loving Arms. Jim was a consummate gentleman, with an infectious smile, a hearty laugh, and a humorous, dry wit. He was empathetic, supportive, and compassionate.
Your generous support in the first 17 years of this event is much appreciated and impactful. Over the years, this tournament has raised:
- ~$230,000 for a scholarship in Nick’s name at his alma mater, University of St. Thomas
- ~$130,000 for the 30-Days Foundation
- ~$10,000 for St. Mary’s Camp
The St. Thomas scholarship in Nick’s name will go on in perpetuity. It currently gives a scholarship award of over $8,300 per year to a St. Thomas Student.
This year, we have chosen to donate the proceeds of this tournament to something near and dear to both Jim and Nick: Scholarships to St. Mary’s Camp. Growing up, both Jim and Nick were active members of the St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church community, serving as altar boys and attending Sunday School. They made some of their closest friendships summer after summer at camp, and it is with great excitement that we’ll be helping kids attend and create cherished memories, just like our boys did.
With love and gratitude,
– The Dovolis Family, John Kasal, and Joe Loftus
